Varsity Head Basketball Coach

4th Season at M-A

  

Coach Phillip White begins his third season at Menlo-Atherton (M-A) as the Head Varsity Basketball Coach.  During his first year, Coach White led the M-A Bears to a 21-11 record and an 8-2 record in the P.A.L. South League.  The M-A Bears won the Cupertino Shoot-Out Tournament and placed second in the P.A.L. play-offs.  For the second year in a row, M-A Varsity Boy's Basketball made an appearance in the CCS Division II Championship Game against Archbishop Mitty, and then went on to compete in the first round of the Nor-Cal play-offs.  Prior to coaching M-A, Coach White was the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at W.C. Overfelt High School in San Jose, where he led the Royals to a BVAL Santa Teresa Division Championship in 2005.  Since 1994, Coach White has served as a Head Coach at every level of High School Boys Basketball throughout the Bay Area.  Coach White has won at least a share of a championship at each coaching stop, including a Junior Varsity Championship at Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton (2002-2003); a Frosh-Soph Championship at Silver Creek in San Jose ((1998 - 2000); and a Frosh Championsnip at James Logan in Union City (1994-1995)and Co-Championship (1996-1997). coach White is certified through the American Sports Education Program (ASEP) and the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS). 

Coach White grew up in San Jose where he attended Oak Grove High Schol.  He has been a San Jose Police Office for over ten years.

Coach Robert Relierford enters his third season at M-A and his 7th season on Coach White’s staff. Coach Relierford brings fifteen years of coaching experience to M-A, in both high school basketball and high school football.  Coach Relierford served as the Frosh-Soph Basketball Head Coach at Overfelt High School for seven years, prior to Coach White’s arrival.  Coach Relierford served another 2 years in that position, before taking over as the Varsity Assistant Boys Basketball Coach and the Director of Basketball Operations.  Coach Relierford retains the same role at M-A, facilitating basketball player paperwork, team information, transportation and facilities.  Coach Relierford has a proven ability to connect, nurture and communicate with student-athletes.  He brings extensive experience to the M-A basketball program while serving as a liaison between players, parents, staff and faculty.   

Coach Relierford is ASEP and NFHS certified.

  Eddy Mangonon

Coach Eddy Mangonon begins his third year on Coach White’s staff. Coach Mangonon and Coach White have known each other since 1994 when they coached against each other at the freshman basketball level - Coach Mangonon was at Irvington H.S. (Fremont) and Coach White was at James Logan H.S.  The following year, Coach Mangonon joined the Logan staff as the J.V. Boys Basketball Coach, where he served for the next ten years.  As a Head Coach, Mangonon compiled an impressive record of 292-74, while coaching at Logan and Irvington.  After taking a year off, Coach Mangonon joined Coach Carr’s staff at San Jose City College, as an Assistant Coach (2005).  Coach Mangonon brings extensive knowledge and a great passion for the game of basketball to M-A. 

Coach Mangonon will specialize in point guard and shooting guard development and also on coordinating the defense. Coach Mangonon is NFHS Certified.

  Tino Mendoza

 

 


Frosh/Soph Head Basketball Coach

4th Season at M-A

  

Coach Tino Mendoza enters his sixth season on Coach White’s staff and his second as the Frosh/Soph Head Basketball Coach.  Coach Mendoza began his coaching career as a Varsity Assistant Coach in charge of guard development during the 2004-2005 season at Overfelt High School.  Midway through the 2006-2007 season, Coach Mendoza replaced the Frosh-Soph Coach, leading the F/S Royals to a 5-9 league record with no returning sophomores.  This year, Coach Mendoza leads a strong Frosh/Soph team, where he will be teaching the nuance of the game of basketball at a higher level, while also bringing Coach White’s system to the Frosh-Soph level, leading the way to the future.  Coach Mendoza will also continue to be utilized as a varsity assistant, at practices and games.

Coach Mendoza has both NFHS and ASEP certifications.
