Phillip White begins his second season at Menlo-Atherton, as the Boy’s Basketball Head Varsity Coach.  In his inaugural season, Coach White led the Bears to a 21-11 overall record and 8-2, in the P.A.L. South.  Along the way, the Bears won the Cupertino Shoot-Out Tournament and placed second, in the P.A.L. play-offs.  For the second consecutive year, M-A Boy’s Basketball made an appearance, in the the CCS Division II championship game versus Archbishop Mitty and went on to the first round of the Nor-Cal play-offs.  Coach White was hired near the end of the 2006-2007 school year, after serving as the Head Varsity Boy’s Basketball coach, at W.C. Overfelt High School, in San Jose, where he led the Royals to a BVAL Santa Teresa Division Championship in 2005. Prior to his tenure at Overfelt, Coach White served as a head coach at every level of high school boy’s basketball, at various Bay Area locations, since 1994.  Coach White has been fortunate to win at least a share of a championship, at each stop including a J.V. championship, at Sacred Heart Prep 2002-2003, F/S championship, at Silver Creek (S.J.) 1999-2000, Frosh championship, at James Logan (Union City) 1994-1995 (Co), 1996-1997.  Coach White is certified through the American Sports Education Program (ASEP) and the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS).

Coach White grew up in San Jose, where he attended Oak Grove High School, and has been a San Jose Police Officer for over ten years.

  Robert Relierford

Coach Robert Relierford is in his second season at Menlo-Atherton and in his 6th season on Coach Phillip White’s staff.  Coach Relierford has fifteen years of coaching experience, in both high school basketball and football.  Coach Relierford served as the Frosh-Soph basketball head coach, at Overfelt High School for seven years prior to Coach White’s arrival and served another two years, in that position, prior to taking over as Varsity Assistant Head Coach and Director of Basketball Operations.  Coach Relierford will remain in the same role, at M-A, handling player paperwork, information, transportation and facilities.  Coach Relierford has a unique ability to connect and communicate with student-athletes and will aid the program while serving as a liaison between players, parents, staff and faculty.  Coach Relierford is an asset to the program and his worth to the players and community is immeasurable.  Coach Relierford is ASEP and NFHS certified.

  Eddy Mangonon

Coach Eddy Mangonon begins his second year on Phillip White’s staff. Coach Mangonon and Coach White have known each other since 1994 when they coached against each other, at the Freshman level, Mangonon at Irvington H.S. (Fremont) and White at James Logan.  The following year, Coach Mangonon joined the Logan staff, as the J.V. Head Coach, where he served for the next ten years.  As a head coach, he compiled a record of 292-74, while coaching at Logan and Irvington.  After taking a year off, Coach Mangonon was on Coach Carr’s staff, at San Jose City College, as an assistant, in 2005.  Coach Mangonon brings an extensive knowledge of and a great passion for the game of basketball, to M-A.  He will be specializing in guard development and coordinating the defense. Coach Mangonon is NFHS Certified.

  Tino Mendoza

Freshman Head Coach

Coach Tino Mendoza is beginning his fifth season on Phillip White’s staff.  He began his coaching career as a varsity assistant in charge of guard development during the 2004-2005 season, at Overfelt High School.  Midway through the 2006-2007 season, Coach Mendoza replaced the Frosh-Soph coach, and led the F/S Royals to a 5-9 league record, with no sophomore returners.  Coach Mendoza will lead the freshman team and has the ability to instruct the fundamentals of the game as well as being able teach Coach White’s system at the lowest level.  Coach Mendoza will also continue to be utilized as a varsity assistant, at practices and games. Coach Mendoza has both NFHS and ASEP certifications.
